UK Plant Scientist appointed to board of CIMMYT

9th Mar 2011

Professor John Snape has been appointed to the Board of Trustees of the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre, CIMMYT, in Mexico.

Since retiring from the John Innes Centre last August, he has kept in touch with global wheat research by becoming an active member of several national and international cereal research committees.

Professor Snape has been a friend of CIMMYT for almost 25 years, having first set foot in the El Batán headquarters back in 1986. He has worked in cereals, with a focus on wheat genetics and biotechnology, for 38 years.

“The Green Revolution in wheat began in Mexico and I hope that I can help CIMMYT to take forward its mission of a new Green Revolution,” said Professor Snape.

“CIMMYT can help developing countries around the world ensure their own food security by helping to develop new varieties of wheat and maize.”

“I hope I can foster and build on the strong plant and crop science links between UK and CIMMYT scientists.
