Rothamsted Research scientist receives prestigious Chinese award

Professor Nigel Halford has been awarded the prestigious Magnolia Silver Award by the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government for his 'valuable support in Shanghai's development and outstanding contributions to friendly co-operation' in relation to his role as a visiting Professor at Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

He received the award at a ceremony in Shanghai on 14th September.

Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences (SAAS), founded in April, 1960, is located in the west suburbs of Shanghai and is sponsored by the Shanghai Municipal Government. It has about 1,000 staff members, with 142 senior researchers. The Academy prioritises its research on the areas of innovation of genetics, protected horticulture technology, technology in eco-agriculture, agricultural biosafety and standardization, storage and processing of agricultural products, application of hi-tech in agriculture and theoretical research in urban agriculture.
