Prof Sarah O’Connor presents Wain Medal Lecture at University of Kent

8th Nov 2013

Professor Sarah O’Connor (Dept. Biological Chemistry) has been presented with the Wain Medal Lecture at the University of Kent.

The Wain Medal is awarded to a young scientist (under 40 years of age) doing research in biochemistry, specifically recognising exceptional research at the biology-chemistry interface.

The topic of Sarah’s lecture, drugs from plants, relates to her work on improving the production of medicinal compounds (e.g. anti-cancer drugs) from plant species, such as the Madagascar Periwinkle.  The ultimate aim being to improve the production of existing drugs and to discover new ones.
