Prof Cathie Martin and Dr Eugenio Butelli shortlisted in innovation competition

19th Feb 2014

Professor Cathie Martin and Dr Eugenio Butelli from the John Innes Centre, probably best known for their work on GM purple tomatoes, have been shortlisted in the BBSRC Innovator of the Year competition.

They are one nomination of just three in their category and, if successful, will go on to compete with the winners in two other categories for the prestigious Innovator of the Year award which was last year won by Professor George Lomonossoff, another John Innes Centre scientist.

The awards are aimed at reflecting the breadth of the benefits delivered by BBSRC’s investment in UK bioscience. The finalists will be judged by an expert independent panel. The judges will be looking to recognise those innovators who have worked the hardest and gone the furthest to take their science out of the lab to deliver impact.
